Expansion of the locker room area and investment in new plant equipment

Brief description of the company
Grupo Alacant, founded in 1972, has been preserving the authentic artisan ice cream tradition for more than 45 years and leads the ice cream market in Spain. They have 4 factories with 27 production lines with a capacity to manufacture 135 million liters per year. Helados Alacant, Antiu Xixona, Somosierra, Royne Special Line and For your Free are their brands. They have a turnover of more than 200 million liters per year and a team of more than 550 people. They are regular suppliers of MERCADONA.

What was the problem to be solved?

Helados Alacant needed to invest in new extensions to the changing room area and new equipment in other common areas of the factory in order to comply with legal regulations and the strict quality and occupational risk prevention standards of companies in the food industry such as this one.

What solution did MEGABLOK provide?
Megablok in collaboration with the environmental, HR, PRL and management team of this food industry company decided that a good complete solution was a good solution:

– Manufacture of 400 locker columns in phenolic material and customized with 2 L-shaped doors and 2 open shoe racks at the bottom, phenolic lockers with sloping overhead to avoid depositing objects on top and facilitate cleaning.

– The type of lock used was a manual code lock because in a food industry company nothing physical (such as a key) can be carried around in the clean area of the factory where ice cream is made.

– In addition to the design and manufacture of lockers for the men’s and women’s locker rooms, benches and phenolic cabins for toilets and showers were also manufactured.

– Special cabinets were also manufactured to store the clean linen brought in by the industrial laundry company.

– And open lockers were designed at the front and back to deposit clogs and shoes. The aisle was marked with a route for the employees, starting at the lathe, they would leave their shoes, exit at the other side of the lathe and pick up their shoes again.

– In addition, lockers embedded in the wall were installed in the corridors, with a phenolic body and a transparent methacrylate door so that employees could leave tupperware or snacks in front of the dining room door and before entering the locker room.

“MEGABLOK has done an excellent job in the facilities of our HELADOS ALACANT factory in San Vicente del Raspeig, so we have also asked them for advice to equip changing rooms and other common areas in other factories of the group.”
